About Soleil Farm:

Soleil Farm is a 45-acre, family-owned business located in Southside Virginia.  We weren't born farmers, but our love of animals and nature, our desire to learn all we can about the meat goat industry, and an incredible mentor - Ned Strange of Strange Farms - have give us a leg-up in the business.

We are building a breeding herd of quality meat goats, using natural, healthy and humane techniques.

With 20-plus acres of land cut-over for timber around 2004, we constructed a grid of 3/4- to 1-acre sections densely packed with young trees, bushes, vines, weeds and grasses.  Using portable, high-voltage and virtually predator-proof electric fencing, we rotate our herd every couple of weeks to a new, browse-rich section.

It's a lot of work, but this rotation through dense browse helps reduce parasites and gives the herd a rich, natural and healthy diet.  In return, we get lots of exercise, bug bites and a volume discount at CVS for poison ivy medicine.

We supplement our herd's diet with free-access minerals and occasional feed.

All our goats are hand-managed (petted, scratched and often held), regularly inspected, and all information is recorded and tracked.  Hooves are cleaned and trimmed at least twice each year.  We use feed-training to move and manipulate the herd, reducing stress on the goats (and us).

We are certified in FAMACHA (the World's leading goat parasite control system) and work in conjunction with the local extension office to implement the program.

We do not breed goats for looks or show.  Our breeding philosophy is centered on "hybrid vigor," and our breeding does are all a mix of boer and various other breeds to produce healthy animals.

Soleil Farm will never be a volume producer of meat goats.  Our goal is to provide quality, all-natural meat to a discriminating market.

We hope to hear from you.  Please contact us at alan@soleilfarm.com if you have an questions or comments.
